This is something I’ll never take for granted. No emails. No to-do lists. Just red rock, laughter, connection, and miles of trail under our boots. Wealth isn’t just about what you earn. It all starts in the initial meeting. While it’s tempting to jump straight into design ideas, the real magic happens when you take the time to understand your clients and their unique needs. Ask them questions - How do they use their space? What works for them, and what doesn’t?⁠

For example, a couple of years ago, I worked on a project for a couple of medical professionals with demanding schedules. We knew their needs were different, as they often worked shifts and had varying hours. So, we made sure to prioritize their rest and relaxation in the design process. We focused on the bedroom, engineering it specifically to enhance sleep...because let’s face it, sleep is critical when you’re working long, unpredictable hours! The ensuite and closet areas were designed with a siloed approach, so each partner could start their morning routine without disturbing the other. By understanding their family's day-to-day lives, we were able to create a space that supported their well-being, both physically and mentally. When you take the time to really get to know your clients and how they live, your design choices become so much more meaningful.⁠
